Small, independent developers have historically had a rough time competing in the computer games industry. Often they are inexperienced developers who lack the skill necessary to create a game with a professional level of polish; or even more often, they attempt a project that is just too ambitious. The struggling small game company wasn't always the case. In the mid-to-late 1980's, the Commodore 64 computer was booming, and the games that followed were nothing short of amazing. Never before had hardware been pushed to, and beyond its limits like the C64. Games from small and large companies alike competed head to head- and the large companies didn't always win. Creativity oozed from the C64 scene that was never seen before- or since.
